Regnum Mariae in Mexico officially started on October 31, 1994, when the Central Council of the Institute welcomed the application for entry of the first two sisters belonging to the youth Group of the Secular Order in Mexico City. In a deep environment of fraternity, the RM’s presence in Mexico grew and developed, with the gift of the Spirit and with the help of the Servite brothers and of the Sister Servants of Mary of the Congregations of Naples and of Chioggia present in Mexico.
The first vocational interest in Mexico dates back to October 1991. It was through a meeting of the then Elder Sister with two young Mexican members of the youth OSSM in Mexico City, who temporarily were in Rome. After this first meeting there followed written correspondence with the then friar in charge of the National Secretariat for the Servite Family in Mexico who wanted to know more about the Secular Institutes within the Servite Family. |
During the UNIFAS Conference (International Union of the Servite Family) in Canada, in July 1993, the first personal meeting between this brother and the RM sisters took place, followed by a thorough exchange of ideas and information. However, it was in a meeting at Monte Berico (Vicenza - Italy), in November 1993, that Regnum Mariae decided to send two sisters to visit Mexico after an official request from the Mexican Vicariate Council. They visited Mexico during the Christmas holidays -New Year 1993-94 providing the opportunity to know the Servite background better and introducing the consecrated life vocation of Secular Institutes and in particular of Regnum Mariae.
These two sisters found in the Servite youth group a fertile and welcoming "ground" to this vocational proposal, as this was previously informed and fostered (between the years 1990-1992) by another Servant of Mary who was then the Assistant to the OSSM youth group. He, in particular, strongly believed in the vitality of the laity, in youth movements and in the richness of the Servite charism, and he, before anybody else, had already introduced the OSSM youngsters to this particular vocation within the Servite Family. |
